A Simple Prayer

Neither side will win, all are sure to fail,

but not joining in is an act of betrayal

Betrayal to your king, and all who fought before,

the noblest of things is to die in their war

Neither should begin, but everyone will lose,

soldiers of tin, with everything to prove

Who do we oppose, and what do we defend, honor I suppose

End your simple day, with this simple prayer,

pray they’re o.k, and in the Lord’s care

Pray they return, with their faculty,

and one day we’ll learn of war's futility

End your simple day, with this simple song,

sing pain away, hope all are strong

Hope they return, to live happily,

and one day we’ll learn of war’s futility

Neither side will win, for nothing will be gained,

Notify next of kin, have this casualty claimed

These are words of kings, commanders and chiefs,

You hear the same sort of things from scoundrels and thieves

Neither should begin, for what a price we pay,

Soldiers of tin, being blown away

With not a lot of grace, nor majesty,

a human disgrace

End your simple day, with this simple prayer,

pray they’re o.k., and in the Lord’s care

Pray they return, with their faculty,

and one day we’ll learn of war’s futility

End your simple day, with this simple song,

sing pain away, hope all are strong

Pray they return to their family,

and one day we’ll learn of war’s futility

Elliot
Elliot gave clues in a late day in June
when she told me that she was concerned
all of it you see was quite curious to me
I thought from my past I had learned
now everything now had changed
I wondered somehow was it all prearranged

Sometimes the lives that we choose
ain't really the things that we're supposed to do
and no matter how hard
we wish upon a star
it might not be in the cards for you
Elliot seemed somewhat uncertain it's true
but he certainly seemed real to me
I thought a lot about how our lives would end up
I thought of every possibility
I thought prevention was better than cure
now it's been six weeks and there ain't nothing for sure
Sometimes the lives that we choose
they ain't really the things that we're supposed to do
and no matter how hard
we wish upon a star
it might not be in the cards for you (yeah)
So maybe we should loosen up
cause sometimes life will interrupt

Hero In Me
He's lived as long as he possibly can
Given the circumstance
'Cause he's protected himself from the world
He never gave it a chance
And he says: Here in my security
I've put a limit on my self-potential
And my possibility
She's seen these walls and they never change
Everything's in its place
Her relationships so neatly arranged
Down to religion and race
And she says: Here in my security
I don't make a move unless my friends approve
I do what's expected of me
And as I grow older
And there's so much that I do not know
I'm drawn to those who are bolder
And go where no one dare to go
And I sleep
And I dream of the person I might have been
And then I'll be free again
And I speak
Like someone who's been to the highest peaks
And back again
And I swear
That my grass is greener than anyone's
'Til I believe again
Then I wake
And the dream fades away and I face the day
And I realize
That there's got to be some hero in me
They've been suppressing their every desire
They do nothing on a whim
She's lost her sparkle and he's lost the fire
Their future looks very dim
And I say: Here in my security
I've simply let myself go
I've developed a co-dependency
And as I grow older
So many places that I've never been
Time's tapping my shoulder
I hope it's never to late to begin
(chorus)

Our Lie
Here we are, you and I
Here we are in our lie
So close but far away
Who would propose
We’d still be here today
As time goes by our spirits weaken
Each day grows colder
We’re hardly speaking
We’ve got our own demands
We’ve got our careers
Neither one understands
What’s keeping us here
Here we’ve been just passing time
Here we’ve been little more
Than a pantomime
Who knows do we deserve anymore
We’re two lost souls
And love was all we were looking for
Each day goes by just like the last
They go so slow but they’re gone so fast
This is our only life, it’s not a rehearsal
This is just our lie, where is reversal
Honestly I can’t believe
This is what’s become of you and me
Weren’t we so happy
The truth is all we are is what used to be
Here we are, you and I
Here we’ve been so full of pride
How about we say that this is goodbye
I’ve gotta get away from our lie

Happy That
A woman caught me smiling
I was walking down the street
The morning sun was shining brightly
She wondered what had happened to me
Tell me what's the score
I told her I was high on life politely
I'm happy that I woke up this morning
No one is promised another day
Lying in the grass
Staring at the sky
Watching the clouds blow by me
A lazy afternoon
Loved one by my side
Nothing satisfies more completely
I'm happy that I woke up this morning
'Cause not everyone gets a chance to stay
Life's too short, don't waste it
While we've a chance take it
Live life today and look toward tomorrow
This might be your last day for all that you know
Standing by the river's edge
Lost within the view
Romantic waves flowing through me
The water's like a looking glass
Reflections from the sky
Nature's the purest beauty
I'm happy that
I woke up this morning
No one is promised another day
Happy that I've witnessed the dawning
Happy that I look at living this way
Life's too short, don't waste it
While we've a chance take it
Live life today look toward tomorrow
This might be your last day for all that you know

Headmasters of Mine
I realize they meant no harm and that they'd seen the truth
These men and women young and old who tried to mold my youth
They were only teaching me how to get through life
How to punch the clock and get a home and get a wife
They knew I was searching for things I'd never find
So they tried to break my mind by paddling my behind
All for the love of an innocent mind
They were the blind leading the blind
All for the love of molding young minds
They were too kind
Headmasters of mine
They themselves were products of a past society
They themselves were victims of the same atrocities
I realize I must forgive but I will never forget
These men and women young and old I'm forever in your debt
They were only teaching me how to run the race
Fill my position with a smile upon my face
Don't ask the question if it isn't from the text
Throw me out into the hall and ask who wants to be next
All for the love of an innocent mind
They were the blind leading the blind
All for the love of molding young minds
They were too kind
Headmasters of mine
I feel it's really sick how so much is wasted
There's so much food for thought that never is tasted
Just read the instructions and fill out the form
And whatever you do my son don't stray from the norm
All for the love of an innocent mind
They were the blind leading the blind
All for the love of molding young minds
They were too kind
Headmasters of mine

A Dark Love Song
Long long time ago my mother told me
as far as she knows that loving was only
for those who love themselves
and it ain't for no one else
and you've got to hold inside a certain amount of pride
Long long way from home, seems i've forgotten
all that i was told and the heartache is startin'
and those who love themselves
aren't enslaved to no one else
and they don't have to compromise
and they don't have to cover their eyes
Seems I'm trapped I can't break free
without you who would I be
and I've rendered myself powerless
Is my need my cowardice
She's got bruises but she'll wear them for love
He's got disease but he'll bear it for love
Don't know what Cupid was thinking of
So many of us just slaves for love
Long long chain of fools and I'm in there somewhere
'Cause love ain't got no rules but somehow I still care
For those who love themselves
even more than I love myself
and though you bring me pain and sorrow
I'll still be here tomorrow
Seems I'm trapped I can't break free
without you who would I be
and I've rendered myself powerless
Is my need my cowardice
She's got bruises but she'll wear them for love
He's got  a new disease but he'll bear it for love
Don't know what Cupid was thinking of
So many of us just slaves for love
Fools for love

In This Lifetime
Don’t waste your life living lies
Stop the madness right now
Don’t waste your youth, seek the truth
Find the courage somehow
To be free and believe
What you want can be yours
Honesty the only key
That will unlock those doors
Don’t bite your tongue or be among
Those who run from resolve
Face all your fears, they’ll disappear
The problem’s easily solved
And stay free, free and clear
From doubt, guilt or shame
The only thing to fear
Is that you’ll have no one to blame
In this lifetime… which could be over
Before you even know it
In this lifetime… if you love someone
You’d better show it
Be what you are take it as far
It’s not so hard to get real
It’s up to you the only rule
Is that you do what you feel
Don’t waste time justifying
Or hiding out like a child
In this lifetime… it could be over
Before you even know it
In this lifetime… if you love someone
You’d better show it
Now, if I’m walking around
With my head hanging down, uninspired
Then how will I ever see
What this life holds for me
When it’s on higher ground
Live… This lifetime
It could be over before you even know it
In this lifetime… if you love something
You’d better show it now
The true crime is you denying
All that is unreconciled

Life Of The Living
Who’s gonna wipe away all your tears
It seems you’re always crying
No one can help you at all my dear
If you think that all of us are lying
So you’ve made some big mistakes
Well that may be true but so have we all
Life comes down to a leap of faith
And you’re afraid to fall
The pain and doubt you feel
Inside your mind is mostly made
By you and you alone
And the large amount of disillusionment
That you contain has subsequently grown
The moment you can live without the hurt
A gift to yourself you will be giving
The moment you pull your head out of the dirt
You can join the life of the living
Do you ever see the brighter side
Or are you much too old for trying
You may be mature beyond your years
But you’re much too young for dying
The world we live in everyday in and everyday out
Can be quite troublesome
But the only things that we can change, control
Or re-route are the things you’re running from
The moment you can live without the hurt
A gift to yourself you will be giving
The moment you pull your head out of the dirt
You can join the life of the living
I never thought I’d see a day when you
Would be afraid; it’s sad what you’ve become
And the pain and doubt I see inside your eyes
Is mostly made by everything you’re running from
The moment you can live without the hurt
A gift to yourself you will be giving
The moment you pull your head out of the dirt
You can join the life of the living

I Know A Man
It's been years, he's been here
And time just lingers and no one knows
He's got eyes, he's got ears
He's got all his fingers and all his toes
His is a life of observation
Maybe one day he'll get to translate this information
For twenty years he hasn"t spoken a word
He's been silent since the accident occurred
While so many people taking tongues for granted
Taking the truth finding ways to slant it
I know  a man who'd know what to do
So many people go day in day out
Just dreaming up things they can bitch about
I know  a man who'd know what to do
It's a dream but for him it's real
And it never goes away
And it never will
He's in touch with what he feels
Ah but he just can't say
Maybe it's better still
His is a life of endless frustration
He's got his pride, he's not exempt from humiliation
Can't lift a finger to stop what's wrong
He can't lift a leg to dance to a Beatles' song
While so many people taking spines for granted
Slither and squirm, taking what they're handed
I know  a man who'd know what to do
So many people go day by day
Sitting on their hands constantly complaining
I know  a man who'd know what to do
So many content to exist like sheep
Never scratching the surface of themselves too deep
I know  a man who'd know what to do
So many people like you and me
Never realizing what their lives could be
I know  a man who'd know what to do

Beyond The Beginning
Wonderful to be with you tonight
The worries of the world will subside
Open your heart, open your mind
Open up your arms and hold on tight
Burning my desire for you
All my dreams are coming true
Now you’re more to me, I’m more to you
There’s more to us, there’s more to living
Much more I know, much more to be
So glad that we are beyond the beginning
Beautiful the starlight on your skin
So glad we are beyond the beginning
We’ve waited so long and now we are here
Finally it’s me that is winning
Yearning like a young girl should
You and I, we’ve got it good
Now you’re more to me, I’m more to you
There’s more to us, there’s more to living
There’s more I know, so much more to be
So glad that we are beyond the beginning
Magical the way you make me feel
Easy 'cause our thing is so real
Just watching you smile in your shy little way
Here with you is where I want to stay
Learning more with every touch
Never have I felt so much
Now you’re more to me, I’m more to you
There’s more to us, more to living
Much more I know, more to be
So glad that we are beyond the beginning
Beautiful the starlight on your skin
So glad we are beyond the beginning

Your Town
I left my home and I came to live here in your town
Now I sit alone as the rain falls hard here on your town
You've got your friends here, you've got family
You take me for granted
'Cause you've got me
Here in your town
In your town
Here in your town
I hold your forte down
I wash I dry your clothes
And I've been a good sport for heaven knows
You've got your artist cooperative and your social set
This ain't the way I was supposed to live
I truly regret
Being here in your town
In your town
Here in your town
I hardly see you but I think it's worse when I do
You say you still love me but how can you?
When you always find something other than me
Like drinking with your mates until quarter to three
Here in your town
Out on your town
Here in your town
